My review

Although many people will disagree with me on this, I really enjoyed reading Mockingjay and felt it was a good end to the story that is The Hunger Games.

This book had less action as the first two, due to there not being a Hunger Games in this one. In some ways I was glad, as then I would be able to judge what I preferred as the main plot in the story, but I'm sad to say that in the end I enjoyed the first two books more because there was a Hunger Games in them. Also, I felt that towards the end, Katniss became a lot weaker, although I understand why. Now I'm sure many people will hate me for saying this, but in my eyes she resembled Bella Swan at one point of the book. It is when she overhears the conversation between Gale and Peeta, and realises she can't choose between the two. Both Gale and Peeta believe that she will choose the one who will be a bigger help towards helping her survive.
The only other disappointment I had with this book is that for her final moments, I wanted to see her as strong, independent and determined like in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and instead you see her chilling memories haunt her, making her a shell of what she once was.

But despite her flaws in this book, I love Katniss Everdeen and she will be a character who is remembered forever.

Even though I have noted my dislikes with the book, the pros outweigh the cons ten times over. Almost all of the book felt like the perfect end to the trilogy. One thing I loved is how there was not one weak character throughout the whole series. They all played their parts perfectly, including Suzanne Collins, and I know this won't be the last time I read this series. This book intrigued me with the political issues and how we finally have two strong sides, with the Capitol's opponents having a chance to defeat them after all these years of torture. You get to see a darker side to the Capitol, and to many of the leading characters. This book has been written so well that you can literally feel the raw emotion of Katniss, Gale, Peeta, all of the characters. You struggle with Katniss, feel her pain and her happiness, and when it's over you know one day you'll have to do it again.

My favourite part of the book has to be the epilogue. Normally I hate that part of the book, because it skips so much, but this was just what I think people needed to see. It shows a completely different side to Katniss, one I believe a lot of people had been hoping to see too.

*The reason I have posted a review on a book that is the last in its series is that it just happened to be the YA book I was reading. If you would like me to review the first two, please leave a comment below!*

  1. Hooray, welcome to the blogging world!!! :)
I'm glad you liked Mockingjay! I've actually read it twice now and the first time around I was really frustrated with it and just didn't connect, but my re-read took away the element of shock at how the book ended and the direction it took (although I admit, I forgot a LOT since my first read), but it helped me bump it up from four to five stars!
Lovely review! Looking forward to many more :)

    1. Thanks! I completely agree with what you said about Mockingjay, I'm hoping to re-read it soon and I'll see if my opinion changes. Hoping to finish writing my review of Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and posting it soon on here. :)
